Healthspan vs lifespan (education)
Lifespan is the length of the tape. Healthspan is how much of the tape you can still walk. Recovery gear, at best, is a bet on the second. It is not a tape extender with a SKU.

Recoveracent is an affiliate publication. Some outbound product buttons may earn us a commission if a real partner URL is configured. Until then they go to the brand’s official site. We do not invent network IDs. Rankings are not for sale. Full disclosure.
People use “longevity” to mean three things: not dying, not rotting, and looking expensive. Only the first is lifespan. The second is healthspan (years with function — moving, thinking, not living in a clinic). The third is a cart.
Definitions we will stick to
- Lifespan — calendar years alive. Measured at the population level with boring vital statistics.
- Healthspan — years without major disability / with function you care about. Messier to measure; still a real idea.
- Longevity (casual) — a marketing soup. We try not to use it without a noun after it.
What actually moves the big numbers
For populations, the unsexy list still wins: not smoking, blood pressure, not crashing cars, infections, and the slow work of clinics. Exercise is the closest “protocol” most of our readers already believe in. Sleep is the closest they skip. A sleep-first stack is therefore more “longevity-coded” than a fourth gadget.
Where gear is allowed to enter
Gear can make a training and recovery practice easier to repeat. Repeated practice is how people stay capable. That is the entire honest bridge — unpacked in why recovery gear matters. The moment a brand says the cabin “adds years,” they have left our rubric.
LEV sits above this
Longevity escape velocity is a claim about future therapies changing lifespan itself. Healthspan habits do not get you there. They might keep you in the game to see whether anyone does.
